OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1988, Bethany Place has helped over 1,200 women and children.

OUR HISTORY

Bethany Place was founded in 1988 in Woodstock, Ga. by Sandra Reed and her husband, Michael. They were so moved by the needs of the less fortunate, they began to collect food, clothing, furniture and household goods in an attempt to meet the needs of the many. They soon began to see many trends between poverty and abuse. This became very prevalent in women and children. Michael and Sandra came to realize that although meeting some of the physical needs were important, in most, it was nothing more than a “band-aid“ effect. In 1990, they desired to create a home with a positive family environment in an attempt to nurture not only the physical needs of the women and children, but also to provide them with an opportunity to break their past and create a better future. Michael Reed passed away in 2016, Sandy says that she is not “moving on“ but “carrying on“ with the vision that she and her husband had since day one.

Bethany Place is a non-profit transitional home for single women and unwed mothers who desire to break the cycle of their past and to heal the wounds of fear and low self-worth. Through a positive home atmosphere, discipline and responsibility, it is the focus of Bethany Place to educate such women to become productive and secure members of society through hard work, dedication and determination, we teach women to rely on their own abilities and aim higher than the Welfare System or an abusive relationship for support. We have housed over 1,200 women and children in the 30 years we have been an organization.

The atmosphere at Bethany Place is very love oriented. The women and children truly care for and learn to interact with each other. Over the course of a minimum of 2 years, they develop strong, stable characteristics, in turn teaching their children a whole new lifestyle. We teach them in every area of life , preparing them to in society when they complete the program. We constantly teach women that part of being a good parent is spending quality time with your children. We are amazed at how children’s lives are changed in a short period of time. Bethany Place has been an organization long enough to see the results of second generation teachings. We have seen much success.

Bethany Place is totally funded by charitable donations from individuals, businesses, churches, civic associations and private foundations through the metropolitan Atlanta, GA area. We have never received government funding. We do not receive any welfare assistance at all. Our goal is to train women and children in all areas of their lives, placing them back into a society as productive persons.
